Irish Lottery Games Explained: Lotto, EuroDreams, Daily Million and More
Irish lottery players have their own games, their own operator and their own draw schedule. If you are used to the UK system, the Irish line-up will look familiar in outline and quite different in detail.
The games below are operated by Premier Lotteries Ireland. Pool sizes, draw nights and prize structures are set out here as Tumbla models them.
Irish Lotto: 6 numbers from 45, plus a bonus ball
Irish Lotto is the flagship game. You choose six numbers from a pool, and a separate bonus ball is drawn alongside the main six.
The format changed in September 2026. The main pool was reduced from 47 balls to 45, with numbers 46 and 47 retired, and the bonus ball is drawn from the same reduced pool. A Monday draw was added at the same time, so Irish Lotto now runs on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
Because the jackpot requires all six main numbers, the smaller pool has made the top prize easier to win. The jackpot odds are now 1 in 8,145,060, against 1 in 10,737,573 under the previous 47-ball format.
EuroDreams: 6 numbers from 40, plus a Dream Number
EuroDreams asks you to choose six numbers from a pool of 40, plus a single Dream Number from a separate pool of five. It is drawn on Monday and Thursday.
The distinguishing feature of EuroDreams is how the top prize is paid. Rather than arriving as one lump sum, it is paid as a regular monthly income over a long period. That makes it a different proposition from a conventional jackpot: the headline figure describes a total spread across decades rather than money available immediately.
The jackpot odds are 1 in 19,191,900.
Daily Million: 6 numbers from 39, plus a bonus ball
Daily Million is drawn every day of the week, which makes it the most frequent game in the Irish line-up. You choose six numbers from a pool of 39, with a bonus ball drawn from the same pool.
Because the pool is relatively small, Daily Million offers the shortest jackpot odds of any game Tumbla supports: 1 in 3,262,623. For a player who wants the most realistic chance of a top-tier win rather than the largest possible prize, that is a meaningful difference.
Lotto 5-4-3-2-1: 6 numbers from 47, plus a bonus ball
Lotto 5-4-3-2-1 is also drawn daily, but with a larger pool of 47 balls plus a bonus ball drawn from the same pool.
The larger pool pushes the jackpot odds out to 1 in 10,737,573, roughly three times longer than Daily Million despite a similar daily schedule.
How the Irish games differ from the UK
Several differences matter in practice.
The operator is different. Irish games are run by Premier Lotteries Ireland, while the UK games are run under a separate licence, so results, claim processes and terms of play are all separate.
The currency is different. Irish prizes are in euro, UK prizes in sterling.
The draw nights are different. Irish Lotto runs Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, for example, while UK Lotto runs Wednesday and Saturday. Some Irish games run every single day.
The games themselves are different. EuroDreams, Daily Million and Lotto 5-4-3-2-1 have no direct UK equivalent, and the pool sizes do not match the UK games that share similar names.
A note on tax
Lottery prizes are not treated as taxable income in Ireland, and UK National Lottery prizes are likewise not subject to UK income tax. This is a notable difference from some other countries, where large prizes can be taxed heavily, but it is not a reason to play - the odds remain what they are.
How to choose between them
If you value frequency, the daily games give you far more draws for the same outlay, and Daily Million in particular offers the shortest jackpot odds in the line-up.
If you value the size of the top prize, the weekly games with larger pools are where the bigger headline numbers sit, though they are correspondingly harder to win.
If you like the idea of an income rather than a lump sum, EuroDreams is built around exactly that.
Tumbla generates numbers for every one of these games, with the correct number ranges and bonus balls for each. Whichever you choose, the numbers remain entertainment - and the odds remain the odds.
